SQL Database Management: Performance Added via Windows Server 8

When it comes to managing database effectively, nothing can beat Microsoft SQL Server. MS SQL database management system is highly reliable and is widely used by many high-end organizations. One just can't deny the fact that SQL database management has become an indispensable technology. SQL Server is one reliable database, which is pretty much in demand all over the world. With noticeable popularity and command, Microsoft further pushes its SQL database management system with significant changes and improvements. In fact, not only Microsoft but also other companies are trying to improve this technology, externally.

When SQL functions normally, it is much easier to manage data. However, the real trouble arises when the database goes corrupt. Adding efficiency to existing SQL database, several database recovery applications restore the SQL database file, effectively, which SQL itself cannot recover. These applications further retain 100 percent data integrity even after the completion of database recovery. Maintaining consistency, these applications perform fast and immaculate recovery.

When talking about significant alterations from Microsoft, the company focuses on building core SQL features in its next Windows Server OS, currently known as Windows Server 8. It adds some of the substantive features required for SQL Server installations. One of the great features is making server core that helps server installations become more secure and require less patching. Windows Server 8 Server Core fully supports SQL Server.

Unlike the previous Windows version, Microsoft will support SQL databases stored on continuously available SMB 2.2 file shares, one of the many enhancements to the Server Message Block (SMB) file sharing protocol. Providing much greater scalability for SQL Server Virtual Machines (VMs), version 8 supports up to 32 virtual CPUs with 512GB of RAM per VM. Perhaps the biggest advancement in Windows Server 8 is its virtualization support. It focuses on releasing Hyper-V 3.0 with major capacity of 160 logical CPUs and up to 2TB of RAM.

Windows Server 8 also provides several improved disaster recovery and replication techniques. Besides, it also supports built-in NIC teaming to support load balancing and failover. Microsoft's recent decision of switching to open database connectivity (ODBC) for SQL Server is yet another transformation primary introduced to offer easy development platform for developers who are considering porting their SQL Server-based applications to Microsoft's cloud. In real terms, shifting to ODBC provides a neutral way of accessing the data stored in a PC, minicomputer or a mainframe database.

Although SQL database management system is a robust database environment, it is old and vulnerable to several new security threats such as SQL injection attacks. To avoid such vulnerabilities, Microsoft needs to take further strict steps for the improvement of SQL database management. We look forward to know the changes that SQL database management system would undergo with respect to establishing stringent security to deal with-hackers newly innovated-SQLi attacks, which intend to bypass security controls as well as increase potency.
